I recently attended a call2all congress in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Call2All is a movement that began just 2 short years ago and now unites thousands of Christian organizations. The purpose: To reach the unreached and finish the great commission - together! During the congress several themes were covered including: The Scriptures, Unreached People Groups, Evangelism, Reaching People of Oral Cultures, Church Presence,Prayer and Compassion/Mercy Ministry. At the end of the congress we were challenged to make commitments regarding one, or many of these areas (plant churches/houses of prayer, reach a certain number of people with the gospel by next year, be part of an oral Bible team, etc.). Many of my ideas were challenged and I gained valuable resources for future ministry. One thing that especially caught my attention was the need for oral Bible teams, those who are willing to learn how to share the scriptures through stories, the arts, etc. with people from oral cultures. The need for Bible translation and Christian literature remains great, but many of the unreached people groups in the world live in cultures where the written word is not the main medium of information, many cannot even read! How much do these people still deserve to hear and understand God's life-changing word? In recent years I have discovered two passions in my life: The Word of God and the Performing Arts, I have been contemplating how to reconcile these two areas and I have discovered that both my Bible training and arts training will help me to teach the Word to oral learners. I am so grateful to God for His blessings and unique giftings in my life!
